The kids in my class have the coolest names. They come from Bangladesh and Romania and Bosnia and Pakistan and Mexico and they are Asian and Latino and African American and their names are NOT boring.
So then, WHY is it that when they write stories, they always always use names like Jim. Alice. Kate. Jessica. Tom. Jason??? Always. No matter what the topic, no matter what the subject.
Because those are the only types of names used in the literature they read. That's why.
I think there's something wrong with that... just an observation.
