Tomorrow morning I begin the right of passage that is student teaching. And among all my nervousness, excitement, and jitters is the comical noting of how different this semester will be from my peers. I have seen several Facebook updates as the other seniors in the class of 2010 flaunt that it is their "LAST FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!" I read that phrase and it's almost funny to me that I cannot at all relate. I will have many many more first-day-of-schools and they will most likely not be my favorite one of the year.
But for now, the first day back has an air of newness and adventure to it. I'm beginning a semester that many look back on and refer to moments with hands in the air as proclomations are made that "I will never actually be a teacher." Mind you, that should never come out of my mouth. Not if I have any sense about me and not if my parents are in earshot.
I very sincerely hope that every day this semester affirms my calling to teaching. I realize that doesn't mean every day will be satisfying or accomplishing, but I hope that every day gives me a shred of understanding as to why this is such a high calling on my life.
And so, here we go...
